Cleaning Your Rings
Many people ask me “How do I clean my rings?” Here are my tips on how you can keep your jewellery sparkling.
For Diamonds, Rubies and Sapphire pieces, whether they be gold, platinum or silver follow these tips:
Dissolve a small amount of dishwasher powder in hot water.
Soak your jewellery for 10- 15 minutes, depending on how dirty they are.
Clean behind the stones with a soft toothbrush or better still an old electric toothbrush.
Rinse in clean warm water.
This will clean the stones to a brilliant shine, but not the metal.
For Semi-Precious and delicate gems like Aquamarine, Emerald, Amethyst and others.
Uso only mild soft soap and warm water, NEVER HOT.
Dip jewellery in and out of the water. Only soak for a few minutes if quite dirty.
Clean behind the stones with toothbrush or soft brush as above.
Rinse in cool water.
Silver and gold discoloration can be cleaned with a quality silver or gold polishing cloth. Silver can also be cleaned with a good quality liquid silver cleaner. I recommend Town Talk exquisite Silver Sparkle medium strength liquid and Town Talk polishing cloths. The results won’t be as good as with proffessional cleaning but can remove discoloration. For scratches, specialist cleaning using polishing equipment is required.
